Thanks to Hurricane Barney, the Primary Tag Rugby Festival was postponed, but finally took place on 24th. November. The day was rather chilly and damp, but balmy compared to the high winds we endured the previous week. Teams from all the Primary Schools in the Braunton Learning Community competed in an intense tournament on the artificial grass pitch, and it was great to see some of our former pupils, now Physical Education students at Petroc, assisting with officiating duties. After a hard fought competition with plenty of exemplary sportsmanship in evidence, Marwood School's team came out victorious, with the team from Caen School in a close second place. Huge congratulations to all the participants and umpires.
Year 9 students visited Hamburg, Germany from 5th to 12th November. After a rather stressful journey involving all manner of coaches, planes, hotels, trains and automobiles we were finally met by our hosts on Friday afternoon (28 hours after departing from Braunton Academy!) 18 pupils accompanied by Mr Barfield, Mrs Hill and Mr Ludley spent an action-packed week near to the exciting Northern German city of Hamburg. Everyone stayed with a host family for the week and, after some initial apprehension, had a great time and built some lasting friendships on only the 2nd Braunton-Sandesneben exchange. Highlights included the Miniaturwunderland, the Marienkirche in Lübeck, the tons of marzipan and who could forget our famous victory in the football tournament!? We look forward to welcoming our friends from the Sandesneben community school back to Braunton in July to show them the wonderful sights and sounds of North Devon. Mr Barfield
