Mark is England no.1

Braunton Academy student and Kingsley School Judo Club member Mark Wild was selected to represent England Judo at the 2016 UK School Games held at Loughborough University over the weekend. Mark was alongside 1,600 athletes across 12 sports, seven of which include disability disciplines, at the four-day spectacular which is supported by National Lottery funding from Sport England and delivered by the Youth Sport Trust. The event, that aims to replicate the experience of a major sporting event like an Olympic and Paralympic or Commonwealth Games, will have spectacular opening and closing ceremonies  an athletes’ village and a full education programme that gives the competing athletes a unique insight into the world of elite sport. The Games have provided a springboard for many of today’s biggest names in sport. Sports Personality of the Year

The hotly anticipated Braunton Academy Sports Personality of the Year 2016 winner has been announced. The whole school participates in the voting, and candidates are nominated by the PE Department or tutors. From a strong field of six finalists, representing the various sports of volleyball, swimming, rugby, athletics and football, the overall winner was India Martin. Among India's achievements in the past year are: achieving personal bests on the way to winning six gold medals in all of her six events in Devon Swim contests; qualifying for the 100m freestyle at the English Nationals; Surf Lifesaving silver medallist for the sea swim; representing the region in 5 separate swimming events. Well done, India. May you continue to go from strength to strength in the pool. We are very proud of your achievements so far.
