A tree for Dave Butt
Dave Butt, a former long-serving teacher and Assistant Head at the school, sadly died earlier this year. He was instrumental in setting up the Amigos Kira Farm educational trip, along with Phil Pugsley (Amigos), Simon Barnes (Pilton Academy) and Nick Langmead (Braunton Academy), which has been such a great success over these past 7 years or so, giving North Devon students a true taste of how we in the west can best help development in Uganda, one of the poorest countries in the world. Dave was also a fully committed member of his community, having sat on the council for several years, been on the organising committee of the Green Man Festival, worked tirelessly to raise funds for the Children's Hospice Southwest, and served as Chairman of his beloved Barnstaple Rugby Club up until his sad demise. On the recent visit to Kira Farm by a group of Braunton and Barnstaple students, a coffee tree was planted in Dave's honour, as he was an enthusiastic coffee drinker. His tree now stands alongside the cocoa tree dedicated to former Head of Technology, Olaf Rinvolucri, another supporter of Amigos.
