Drama Club gives a great performance
Braunton Academy Drama Club has a long and rich history of performing pantomimes. In the past we have enjoyed productions of many plays, including Humpty Dumpty, Snow White and The Dragon of Wantley. This year, the chosen script was Hansel and Gretel; I'm sure everyone is familiar with the tale of two hungry children who stumble across a house made of sweets and are captured by a wicked witch, but this production was much, much more, incorporating a good-hearted pantomime dame, a pair of do-gooding sweethearts, an evil wizard, a greedy landowner and his two bumbling henchmen/girls. With a supporting ensemble of village folk, dancers and singers, there was the chance for all of our budding thespians and theatrical technicians to be part of the production. Mention must be made of year 11 pupil and Drama Club stalwart, Alfred Alexander, who played a fantastic dame, sporting several crazy costumes and wigs, and received a very favourable response from the audience on both show nights.
Drama Club's next production will be The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe; auditions have just taken place and the cast have started rehearsals. The play will be performed just before the Easter break - watch this space for ticket details.
